Sarah's 5th Birthday

My little girl is 5!  She's so excited about turning 5.  She went around the house that morning seeing if she could reach higher than she could the day before.  She told me a few months ago that when kids turn 5 they don't need their mommys to tell them what to do!  I have a feeling I'll be telling her what to do for a few more years.  She seems so grown-up to me.  Maybe it's the fact that big girl school is looming just a few months down the road or possibly the fact that she is so independent that I don't always have to tell her what to do.

The morning of her birthday, she woke up to streamers in her door.  I totally stole that idea from a friend's blog.  I think that's her favorite memory from the whole day!

Her preschool had a field trip to Chuck E. Cheese of all places on her actual birthday.  I wish I had known that in advance.  Maybe her actual party could have been smaller.  This is a picture of her standing on the stage while her classmates sang "Happy Birthday" to her.

Sadly, Chris wound up in the hospital that day.  His pain was so out of control that I had to take him to the emergency room.  I'm so grateful for friends who could watch her so she didn't have to sit all those long hours at the hospital.

Later that night, I brought her and a couple of gifts to the hospital so she could open them with the both of us.  She got Pinkalicious and a Hello Kitty shirt for her Hello Kitty party.

We were starving when we left the hospital, so she and I stopped by Steak-N-Shake.  They were so kind to give her a sundae as a birthday treat.  She was a happy girl!
