I worked outside today. I worked consistently from 11:30 AM until 4:20 PM with a quick break for lunch and a quick chat with my mom. It was a beautiful day to be outside. I only wish I had been doing this instead of raking leaves and picking up after the dogs. It was a nice, warm day in November and at least I was outside no matter what I was doing.
I like yardwork because it gives me time to think. My head has been a little crowded to say the least. The sound of the lawn mower or leaf blower keeps Sarah at bay. I can sort through a lot of thoughts that's been paiently waiting.
Today I thought about how outdoor chores differ from indoor chores. (I know this isn't a deep thought, but I found it interesting.) When cleaning the house or doing laundry, I never had to worry about the weather or my work schedule. This isn't true with yardwork. If I had to work that evening, I had to be finished cutting grass by 1:00 PM or my head was too swimmy to focus on my consultations or marketing. When we had the unbearable heat this summer, I watched the weather in hopes of a favorable day to cut grass.
Now with cold snaps becoming longer and the autumn rains falling, I find myself trying to squeeze it all in. Chris and I are usually trying to out run Old Man Winter when it comes to the final yardwork of the season. Since I'm a man down, I've been super focused on getting everything done. Now if that one last tree in the neigbor's yard would drop it's leaves, I would be finished. Who am I kidding? I still have gutters to clean!
